The PhD Management (By Research) programme is designed to enable the student to develop deeper knowledge, understanding, capabilities and attitudes in Management and to contribute to knowledge specifically in the area of management research.

The programme aims to:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of appropriate research techniques in Management
  • Develop competence in independent investigation and advanced research in Management
  • Make a significant original contribution to the development of new knowledge in Management.

The objectives of the PhD Management (By Research) programme are as follows:

  • To develop a thorough understanding of classical and modern theories, methodologies, practices and their implications in the selected topic of research in the Management field
  • Enhance students’ experimental knowledge and analytical ability to solve current issues and problems in the relevant field of Management
  • To develop relevant skills of research and apply them efficiently and effectively to suit various types of societal needs
  • Keep abreast of current issues and innovative advancements in Management taking into account relevant commercial, ethical, social and legal issues
  • Publish the research for broader promulgation and application
  • To train students as the future leaders who are knowledgeable and competent in the chosen Management fields of study
  • Developing an indispensable thirst for research
  • Strengthening the technical skills to design, evaluate, implement, analyse, theorise and disseminate research that makes a contribution to society
Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the PhD Management programme, students will be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes:

  • Synthesise knowledge in Management
  • Adapt practical skills leading towards innovative ideas in Management
  • Provide professional services to society in improving issues in Management
  • Conduct research independently and adhere to the legal, ethical and professional code of practice in the Management
  • Communicate and work effectively with peers, scholarly communities and stakeholders, while displaying leadership qualities
  • Critically evaluate problems in the relevant field of Management using scientific skills;
  • Integrate information to develop lifelong learning in the relevant field
  • Contribute original research that has broadened the boundary of knowledge through an in-depth thesis, which has been presented and defended according to the international standards including writing in internationally refereed publications in management
