To cater the needs for qualified Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practitioners for industrial employment in Malaysia.
The advancement of the modern workplace has made safety and health a growing profession. It includes a wide job scope including manufacturing, construction and education. Safety and health practitioners play their role in promoting occupational health and safety (OSH) within organizations.
They also help prevent harm to workers, property, the environment, and the public by designing programmes to control, eliminates, and prevents disease or injury in the workplace.
The Occupational Safety and Health (Safety and Health Officer) Regulations 1997, which came into force on 22 August 1997, require certain industries to employ a competent safety and health officer to resolve matters pertaining to the safety and health at their workplace. The academic programme introduced is hoped to cater for the needs of the above mentioned.
At the end of the programme, graduates will be able to:
- Acquire knowledge and supervisory skills in OSH and its related disciplines
- Apply knowledge and acquire competencies in OSH and its related disciplines
- Identify OSH problem and apply thinking skills to solve problems related to OSH
- Communicate effectively through appropriate oral and written modes
- Lead multi-disciplinary team to carry out assignments in OSH
- Adopt and apply ethical values and moral responsibility
- Search, acquire and use relevant information independently from a variety of resources for continuous self-development and life-long learning
- Acquire entrepreneurial knowledge and demonstrate entrepreneurial capabilities for OSH opportunities
Technical and supervisory positions such as Safety Supervisor, Occupational Hygienist, Safety and Health Practitioner, Safety and Health Auditor, and Occupational Safety and Health Coordinator and Safety Advisers.
Candidates must Pass SPM or equivalent with at least five (5) credits in the following subjects:
- Bahasa Malaysia
- Once (1) science subject (Biology / Physics / Chemistry / General Science / Applied Science)
- Any other subjects
Or, any equivalent qualifications recognised by Malaysian Government.
